Vol Eric Berry Continues His PostSeason Awards Spree

Tennessee freshman defensive back Eric Berry was named Monday to the Freshman All-America team selected by the Football Writers Association of America and AON Insurance. The team was announced in conjunction with the FWAA awards breakfast and Monday night's BCS National Championship Game.

Berry led the Vols this season with five interceptions and broke a 37-year-old school record by compiling 222 interception return yards, topping the previous mark of 177 set by Bobby Majors in 1970.

The Fairburn, Ga., native topped all SEC freshmen in tackles with 86 and twice was named SEC Freshman of the Week.

During the postseason, Berry has been named to Freshman All-America first teams by Sporting News, CollegeFootballNews.com and Rivals.com, in addition to Monday's FWAA honor.

He also was selected National Defensive Freshman of the Year by CollegeFootballNews.com and SEC Defensive Freshman of the Year by Sporting News.

Berry was a second-team All-SEC choice by the league's coaches and writers and was a consensus pick for Freshman All-SEC honors.
