More Honors For The Baseball Vols

The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) announced Tuesday that Tennessee pitcher James Adkins has been selected as the Pro-Line Athletic National Pitcher of the Week for the period ending April 29. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I conference every week and selects its honorees throughout the season.

On Monday, Adkins was selected as one of Louisville Slugger’s National Players of the Week and the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week following his complete-game win at LSU last Friday. The Mt. Juliet, Tenn., native recorded 14 strikeouts and allowed just three hits against the Tigers. His dominant performance was highlighted by his 346th career strikeout, which broke R.A. Dickey’s school record of 345 Ks from 1994-96.

With this week's NCBWA honor, Adkins is automatically named to the watch list for 2007 Roger Clemens Award, given annually to the national collegiate pitcher of the year and sponsored by the Greater Houston Baseball Organization. Former Vol Luke Hochevar (2003-05) won the Clemens Award in 2005.

Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. For more information about the NCBWA, visit the association's official web site at:
