USTFCCCA Names Four Lady Vols Thinclads To All-Academic Team

Four University of Tennessee standouts and a future Lady Vol were among those honored by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association as members of the 2007 Women’s Division I All-Academic Track & Field Team.

Big Orange athletes making the list were sophomore Sarah Bowman (Warrenton, Va.) and freshmen Jackie Areson (Delray Beach, Fla.), Lynne Layne (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and Phoebe Wright (Signal Mountain, Tenn.). Heidi Magill (Orem, Utah), who just finished her third school year at BYU and will be transferring to Tennessee in the fall, also made the cut.

The USTFCCCA honors NCAA Division I athletes for their academic and athletic achievements during the indoor and outdoor track & field seasons. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, one must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25 and obtain an NCAA automatic or provisional qualifying mark for the most recent indoor championships or an outdoor regional qualifying mark in their respective event.

Bowman has fashioned a 3.81 GPA in business, while Areson has a 3.54 in arts & sciences, Layne has a 3.69 in child and family studies and Wright has a 4.00 in arts & sciences.
