Bray named SEC Freshman of the Week

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Derek Dooley will feel better about lavishing Tennessee freshman quarterback Tyler Bray with praise after he proves he can repeat the kind of dominating performance he had against Memphis.

The coach doesn't have a problem saying Bray did a good job, though.

Bray threw for five touchdowns and 325 yards in two and a half quarters against the Tigers in his first career start. That earned him the Southeastern Conference freshman of the week award, the first weekly SEC honor for any Volunteers player this season.

Dooley tempered his praise in part because Bray's domination came against the second-worst defense in the FBS. Bray's second career start and first against an SEC opponent promises to be more challenging thanks to Mississippi's strong pass rush led by defensive tackle Jerrell Powe.
