AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) -- Bubba Watson put on an eye-opening display of birdie-making to surge to the lead in the second round of the Masters.

The 2012 champ shot a 4-under 68 that featured five straight birdies on the back nine. His 7-under total puts him in command at the first major of the year.

Watson enjoys a three-shot lead over John Senden who also shot a 68 in round two. Denmark's Thomas Bjorn also shot a 68 and is one back of Senden along with Jonas Blixt of Sweden.

The winds have whipped up at Augusta National as the day has worn on, with gusts of up to 20 mph expected.

They may have blown away Phil Mickelson chances. The three-time champ shot a 1-over 73 that included a triple-bogey 6 on the 12th hole. He's 5-over, 12 shots back of the lead.

The low 50 scores and ties within 10 shots of the lead make the cut.
