Career night leads Smokies to 5-1 win over Jackson

KODAK, Tenn. (release) -- Three players from the Tennessee Smokies had career nights Monday night in Tennessee’s 5-1 win over the Jackson Generals at Smokies Park. Alberto Cabrera pitched a career-high eight innings and struck out 13, Justin Bour had his first multi-home run game and Elliot Soto hit his first career home run. The win improves the Smokies to 3-3 in the second half and 27-38 overall.

The Generals (3-3, 32-40) got on the board first in the second inning when Ji-Man Choi hit his fourth home run of the season to give Jackson an early lead, 1-0.

Tennessee answered right back when Justin Bour homered off Jackson starter Roenis Elias (3-7) to tie the game at one.

The next inning, Elliot Soto hit his first career home run to give the Smokies a 2-1 lead after three innings.

That would be all the run support that Cabrera (7-3) would need. The right-hander allowed just the one run on three hits while striking out 13 in his eight innings of work. The eight innings and 13 strikeouts were both career highs for Cabrera.

The Smokies added some insurance runs in the eighth. Following a leadoff walk to Soto and a Matt Szczur base-hit, Bour hit his second home run of the night to give the Smokies a 5-1 lead. This was Bour’s first career multi-home run game. He went 2-4 on the night with four RBIs.

Left-handed reliever Zac Rosscup came in to pitch the ninth inning for the Smokies, striking out one and walking one in his inning of relief.

The Smokies and Generals will continue their five-game series on Tuesday night at 7:15 at Smokies Park. Tennessee’s lefty Austin Kirk (1-1, 4.86) will face-off against Jackson’s southpaw Anthony Vasquez (0-0, -.--). For tickets and more information, fans can visit or call (865) 286-2300.
