Countdown to Kickoff: Lenoir City

LENOIR CITY, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Lenoir City is no longer anyone's homecoming.

Mike Zeller has turned the program into a consistent contender for the playoffs and with a 9-3 record in 2012, the Panthers are coming off their best season in 16 years.

A strong offense last fall helped Lenoir City to that record. This year, many of those players are gone, but Zeller still returns two outstanding playmakers in Tennessee commitment Jaylond Woods and running back Caleb Wilson.

"We've got some good players, good skilled players," Zeller said.

"You'll see us mix it up. We have a new quarterback. And we're going to have to get him some reps and develop him."

One of the team's more inexperienced areas is the offensive line.

Wilson is confident his teammates will get the job done.

"The line did really well last year and gave me a lot of holes to run through," Wilson said. "I'm hoping for the same thing this year. There's some big guys back there."

Lenoir City opens up the season August 30 at rival Loudon.
