Five-run fourth powers Tennessee past Chattanooga

In the first game of the second half of the 2013 Southern League season, the Smokies returned Justin Bour and Jae-Hoon Ha to the lineup and the offense torched Lookouts’ starter Zach Lee. Tennessee (35-35) improved to 10-6 when Bour and Ha are on Buddy Bailey’s lineup card with a 7-2 win over Chattanooga (35-36).

The Smokies exploded for six runs in the fourth inning after six consecutive two-out hits. Christian Villanueva lined a 2-2 offering over the fence in left field for his sixth home run of the season to get the rally started. After an Anthony Giansanti single and a double by Rafael Lopez, Ronald Torreyes knocked in his second run of the game to put Tennessee ahead 3-1. Smokies starter Alberto Cabrera lined a double to right to extend the lead to 5-1. Matt Szczur capped the big inning with a double to left field making it 6-1.

After almost two months on the disabled list, Bour crushed his third home run of the year in the fifth inning with one out in his third at-bat to extend the lead to six runs.

Tennessee fell behind Chattanooga early in the game. After a double play in the bottom of the first, Cabrera walked Joc Pederson on five pitches. The outfielder promptly stole second base and cleanup hitter Brian Cavazos-Galvez lined a double over the head of Szczur in center to put Chattanooga on top 1-0.

In the top of the third, Lopez hammered a doubled off the wall in straightaway centerfield to lead off the frame. The next batter, Torreyes tucked a double inside the third base bag to score Lopez and tie the tally at one.

Chattanooga tacked on a run in the bottom of the seventh. Zach Rosscup walked Jan Vazquez to lead off the inning. With two outs, Miguel Rojas singled in Vazquez to cut the deficit to 7-2.

Torreyes went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI’s and a run scored while Villanueva and Lopez collected two knocks, combining for three runs scored.

Cabrera worked six innings allowing an earned run on six hits, three walks, six strikeouts. The righty went 1-for-3 at the plate with 2 RBI and a run scored.

Game two of the series is Thursday night at AT&T Field in Chattanooga at 7:15. The Smokies will send lefty Austin Kirk (0-1, 7.36) to oppose Lookouts’ southpaw Chris Reed (3-5, 3.80).
