Jennings named Tennessee gatorade player of the year

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT/SUBMITTED) -- Tennessee soccer 2014 signee and incoming freshman Josie Jennings was named the Tennessee Gatorade Girls Fall Soccer Player of the Year on Thursday.

The award recognizes outstanding athletic excellence, high standards for academic achievement and exemplary character on and off the field. As the Tennessee Player of the Year, Jennings is now a finalist for the Gatorade National Girls Soccer Player of the Year, which will be announced in May.

Jennings, who signed her national letter of intent to join Tennessee on Wednesday, is a 5-7 defender from Farragut High School. This past fall she had one goal and two assists and led a defense the posted 17 shutouts as the Admirals went 19-3-3 and finished as a Class AAA state semifinalist. Jennings is a three-time NSCAA All-American, a three-time PrepXtra First Team honoree and a three-time District 4-AAA Defender of the Year.

Jennings also maintained a 3.92 GPA, founded the Farragut High Dance Club and volunteered for the Shiloh Riders, an organization that provides Christmas gift bags to families in need. The Knoxville native has also worked with young athletes with disabilities through the US Youth Soccer TOPSoccer program.
