Knoxville loves Lady Vols softball: Sets ratings high for World Series

BRISTOL, Conn. (WVLT) -- East Tennessee loves their Lady Vols.

On Thursday, ESPN said the Game 1 of the Women's College World Series scored an 11.9 rating in the Knoxville area. That's the highest number they've seen in an individual market on ESPN2 since a record high number of homes tuned in back in 2007. And, who set that record?

East Tennessee, again!

ESPN said the finals between Tennessee and Arizona generated a whopping 15.3 rating here in the Knoxville-area.

For a bit of comparison, in the University of Oklahoma's home market, Oklahoma City, games 1 and 2 only registered ratings of 6.6 and 6.7, respectively. While they were WCWS record-highs for Oklahoma, they're still overshadowed the 7.8 rating posted here for game 2.

ESPN said around 1.2 million people tuned in nationwide for Oklahoma's 12-inning victory in game 1 and 1,315,000 watched them take the crown in game 2.
