Bryant off to terrific start in Tennessee

Kodak, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Kris Bryant has been smashing baseballs into the stratosphere and delighting fans. The tall Third baseman is leading the Southern League in home runs, RBI and batting average among several other categories. And he shows no signs of slowing down.

"I feel pretty good. I go up there each and every at-bat with a new mentality. Not focusing on what I've done in the past. Just focusing on the present moment. And hitting the mistake pitches because I'm getting a lot of those lately. And I'm doing what I'm supposed to do with them," Bryant says.

The second overall pick in the 2013 draft is creating a buzz like few others before him, according to Smokies radio announcer Mick Gillispie. "Throughout the years here in Tennessee we say 'we've got this guy and he's really good.' I'm wondering if this isn't what a Hall of Famer looks like when he's in the Minor Leagues."

Despite his rapid rise and hype surrounding him, Bryant has stayed a man of the people, signing every autograph and posing for pictures. "You know, I was that kid coming to the game getting autographs. So, if I can put a smile on someone's face then you know I'm doing my job," says the charismatic Bryant.

Bryant is also very popular with the female fans. Those in the organization have a theory for this. "Have you ever looked into his eyes?" asked teammate Anthony Giansanti. Gillispie agrees, "Apparently he's got some eyes that I'm told you've got to keep watching."

His eyes have drawn comparisons to actor Zac Efron. But the attention from women hasn't distracted him. Bryant is focused on baseball, and his long-time girlfriend. "I've got a girlfriend so I don't need to pay attention to that. You know, I'm taken."

Combine his pure baseball skill, million dollar smile and those piercing eyes and you get a glimpse in the Cubs future.
