Vols, local standouts selected on day 3 of MLB draft | UPDATE

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Day three of the Major League Baseball Draft saw several Vols selected, as well as some former local high school standouts.

Here's a rundown of those drafted on Saturday.

Will Maddox, infielder/University of Tennessee: 18th round/Detroit
Bryce Beeler, pitcher/Memphis (Halls): 19th round/New York Mets
Nick Williams, pitcher/Univ. of Tennessee (Farragut): 26th round/Miami
Taylor Smart, infielder/University of Tennessee: 26th round/Seattle
Logan Sawyer, pitcher/Lincoln Mem. (Seymour): 29th round/Colorado
Hunter Tackett, outfielder/Anderson Co. HS: 36th round/Milwaukee

Day 2 of the MLB Draft saw a pair of local players selected. Brett Martin who pitched Walters State this past season was selected by the Texas Rangers in the 4th Round. Martin graduated from Morristown West and was a member of the UT squad for 1 season.

Bearden Senior Lane Thomas heard his name called in the early 5th round by the Toronto Blue Jays. Thomas had originally signed with the Vols but will skip college to sign with the Blue Jays. Thomas also was a member of the U-18 Team USA baseball squad.

Oak Ridge righthander Kevin Steen was taken by the Red Sox in the 9th Round of the Draft. Steen is a UT signee, but he hasn't yet decided if he will join Boston or play for the Vols.
