Local stars Cobb, Smith knocked out of games with injury

BALTIMORE (WVLT/AP) -- The Green Bay Packers lost receiver Randall Cobb to a leg injury in the first half at Baltimore on Sunday.

Cobb, the team's best breakaway threat at the position, was injured when he was struck in the right leg on a tackle by safety Matt Elam. The former Alcoa High School standout left the game and did not return.

It's not known yet the severity of the injury.
MINNEAPOLIS (WVLT/AP) -- Minnesota Vikings safety Harrison Smith was knocked out of the game against Carolina with an injured left foot. He did not return.

Smith was injured while chasing down a screen pass to DeAngelo Williams near the Vikings goal line in the third quarter Sunday. He was able to walk off under his own power but later was taken on a cart to the locker room for further examination.

Losing Smith would be a big blow to a struggling secondary. The Vikings entered the game tied for 29th in pass defense, and Smith is by far the team's best defensive back.

Smith was a standout at Catholic, before signing with Notre Dame. The Vikings selected Smith in the first round of the 2012 NFL draft.
