Scots ranked for first time in 35 years

MARYVILLE, Tenn. (release) -- The Maryville College Fighting Scots football team, fresh off a 47-15 win over Greensboro College to clinch the 2013 USA South title, has cracked into the national rankings at

Maryville (8-1, 6-0 USA South) has moved into the No. 24 ranking after receiving votes for the past two weeks.

The Scots joined the NCAA Division III in 1974. The football program was ranked during the later 70's, including the 1978 season where they went 8-1.

This has been the first time in 35 seasons that the Fighting Scots have cracked the Top 25. Last week the NCAA released their regional rankings and before MC moved toward their seventh consecutive victory, the Scots were ranked 7th in the South Region.

MC will travel to Huntingdon College on Saturday to conclude the regular season. This is only the fourth Maryville team (1941, 1963, 1978, 2013) to earn an eight win season in 120 years of collegiate football.

The Scots have never had a nine win season and will strive to add to this historic season in Montgomery, Alabama next weekend.
