OKLAHOMA CITY (UT Release) -- Tennessee's Meighan Simmons has been recognized again for her stellar play this season. The Associated Press announced its NCAA Division I Women's Basketball All-America Team on Tuesday, and the Lady Vol guard was chosen as a member of the third team.

A 5-9 junior from Cibolo, Texas, Simmons joined Texas A&M's Kelsey Bone, UConn's Stefanie Dolson, Duke's Elizabeth Williams and Notre Dame's Kayla McBride on the third unit. It marked the first full All-America distinction for the SEC's Co-Player of the Year after she garnered honorable mention kudos in 2011 as a freshman.

Simmons is averaging 17.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.4 steals and 31.8 minutes per game for the Lady Vols, who will play Louisville tonight for a berth in the NCAA Final Four.

The UT shooting guard eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau this season, standing at 1,475 for her career as of now. She has hit 41.7% from the floor this season, including 36.7% from the three-point line, and has been among the SEC leaders all season at 85.1% from the charity stripe.

She became just the eighth Lady Vol to be named an AP All-American. The most recent was Shekinna Stricklen, who earned third-team accolades in 2010 and 2011 after receiving honorable mention in 2010.

The AP first team included Brittney Griner of Baylor, as well as Notre Dame's Skylar Diggins, Stanford's Chiney Ogwumike, Delaware's Elena Delle Donne and Baylor's Odyssey Sims.

Maryland's Alyssa Thomas headlined the second team and was joined by Connecticut's Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis, Penn State's Maggie Lucas, Duke's Chelsea Gray and Kentucky's A'dia Mathies.
