Summitt: Lady Vols can contend for title

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- After two seasons of growing pains, the latest edition of the Tennessee Lady Volunteers finally understand what it takes to compete for championships.

Pat Summitt says it's about time.

The coach says this group of players realize they're running out of time to change their legacy from being the worst Tennessee team to one that includes an NCAA championship.

It's only been two full seasons since the Lady Volunteers last won an national title -- their eighth -- but Tennessee had never seemed farther from the NCAA championship game.

The pack of talented freshmen Summitt restocked her team with after the 2008 championship are now juniors and feel they've worked hard enough in the gym and during practice to make it to the Final Four.
