KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP/WVLT) -- Tennessee drew a No. 9 seed in the West Region of the NCAA touranment after a roller-coaster season and will face No. 8 seed Michigan (20-13) in Charlotte, N.C., on Friday.
The Volunteers (19-14), who advanced to the regional finals for the first time last season, earned their sixth straight NCAA bid for the first time in program history.
Tennessee received a lot of attention during the season after coach Bruce Pearl revealed he'd mislead NCAA investigators during a probe into recruiting. The Vols opened the season winning seven straight, beating Villanova to win the preseason NIT and upsetting Pittsburgh.
They also swept Vanderbilt and beat Memphis, but suffered embarrassing losses to Charlotte and College of Charleston and went 8-8 in Southeastern Conference play.
Should the Vols beat the Wolverines, they would likely face Duke. The Blue Devils are the top seed in the West Region.
