KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - During a Tuesday Knox County Health Department briefing, Dr. Martha Buchanan reminded everyone of the importance of practicing the five core actions while voting.

Dr. Buchanan said a face shield is not a suitable substitute for a mask, and anyone who is feeling sick should stay home.

Anyone who does go to the polls should adhere to the following:

  • Wear a mask
  • Maintain six feet of distance between yourself and others
  • Wash your hands frequently
  • Sanitize surfaces
  • Self assess for COVID-19 symptoms and stay home if you experience them

Dr. Buchanan said the Election Commission has been advised to facilitate the five core actions.
