East Tennessee “noodlers” hope to inspire on The Amazing Race
Best friends and Dayton, TN natives Nathan Worthington and Cody Buell compete for the $1 million prize on the Amazing Race.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -Dayton, Tenn., natives Nathan Worthington and Cody Buell spend their free time “noodling.” Bringing up monster catfish from East Tennessee’s lakes and rivers. It’s not for the faint of heart, the best friends say it all comes down to trust.
“I have to trust him with my life," said Buell. “It’s a mental thing more than it is physical in terms of pain and it does hurt a little bit, but it’s something that’s an exhilaration a thrill.”
It was that unique bond and the uniqueness of noodling that caught the eyes of CBS talent scouts, who asked the duo to join season 32 of ‘The Amazing Race.’
The show wrapped filming in November 2018. The pair have now waited nearly two years to not only get to see themselves on national television but to finally show friends and family what they accomplished.
“It’s one of the best opportunities of a lifetime, and you can’t tell nobody.” Said Worthington. “The paperwork that we had to sign was just unreal. It was more paperwork than buying a house.”
With the wait coming to a close on Wednesday night at 9 P.M. on WVLT, the pair are also excited to share their story with millions.
“I mean it was amazing. Just to have the opportunity to be able to travel the places we did," said Worthington. “You don’t think stuff can happen to you just because you’re from a small town, we’re proof that it can if you’re just willing to accept it.”
“We really just want to spread positivity,” said Buell. “We just love everybody and we want to bring everybody up. The passion and building each other up amongst the cast, we want to spread that to the world and want to be those positive people. If we can bring some kind of light to this world that’s what we want to do.”
