KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Wednesday news that Billy Kidd had passed away at just 61 years old stunned East Tennesseans. The longtime radio personality was a giant in Knoxville media, and he had the accolades to show it with his 2018 induction into the Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame.
His longevity and likeability are undeniable when it came to being on the radio, but those that knew him best say they’ll remember Billy Kidd for much more.
Former cohost Phil Williams said that “Billy was someone you could depend on," while others like Elaine Streno, of the Second Harvest Food Bank, says “he was just a good soul and will truly be missed."
WVLT News Sports Correspondent Mark Packer tells us that he and Billy used to have a phone call every day at 3:15, and it’s those conversations that he’ll miss the most along with his genuine and selfless personality and character.
Streno says that Second Harvest is hoping to do something soon to honor Billy, who over the years helped raise thousands in donations to feed the needy in East Tennessee.
