KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Country music legend Dolly Parton shared her wishes this Christmas in a letter penned to Santa.

Parton shared her first Christmas letter to Santa since she was a little girl in the December 2020 issue of Good Housekeeping.

“Dear Santa, I haven’t written to you since I was a little girl living in a rundown shack at the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains,” Parton said in the opening of the letter.

In the letter, the singer-songwriter said her father always told her “there was no need” for her to write to Santa since they lived so far back in the woods.

“I think he was probably right about that,” Parton said. “I never did get the things on my list, but that didn’t stop me from believing in you.”

This year, Parton asked Santa to “bring joy to those who have lost the ability to laugh and enjoy life because of this critical time.” She also asked for Santa to “bring hope for a better and brighter tomorrow.”

“Santa please bring lots of love, enough to heal this wounded world, enough to help mend our differences, enough to open our eyes to the fact that we’re all God’s children and we all have an equal right to live in this world together at peace,” Parton said.

Parton ended the letter with a reminder for Santa to wear his mask this Christmas as he goes in and out of homes. She also asked for Santa to help with the COVID-19 vaccine.
