Vol basketball freshman Jaden Springer declares for NBA Draft.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Tennessee freshman guard Jaden Springer took the first step in pursuing his professional dreams Monday.
“After much consideration, I have decided to take the next step in my basketball career by signing with an agent and declaring for the 2021 NBA Draft. Playing in the NBA has always been my dream,” Springer said in a tweet.
A member of the 2021 SEC All-Freshman Team, Springer led the Vols in scoring (12.7 ppg), 3-point percentage (.435) and free throws made (3.2 per game).
“To Vol Nation, your love and support will always hold a special place in my heart. Although the season didn’t end the way we all wanted it to, I’m still grateful for everything we accomplished. It was truly an honor to represent the Volunteers.”
Twice named SEC Freshman of the week, Springer led the team in assists ten times and steals eight times.
“I’d like to thank God for allowing me to be in this position. I’d like to thank Coach Barnes, the staff and Vol Nation for the privilege to play at the University of Tennessee. UT has great people, and the fans are the best in the country! Thank you to my teammates who always had my back. Thank you to my family and friends for always being there to love and support me.”
Springer is originally from Charlotte and played for IMG Academy in high school before moving to Knoxville.
“Although I was only here for a short time, you welcomed me and made me feel at home. While I am excited to pursue my NBA dream, please know that Rocky Top will always be home sweet home to me.”
