Writers Block: Saving the Earth with children’s books
Saving the Sharks is the latest book in her series.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - A Knoxville author hopes her children’s book will help teach the next generation about saving the Earth.
Bethany Stahl is behind the series Save the Earth. She has a background in science. Each book follows a new story with reoccurring characters for children to understand conservation and environmentalist efforts.
Save the Sharks is the newest book. Stahl said she hopes children enjoy the books, but also learn something too.
“What inspired me was being in front of children and talking with them about what they wanted to see from children’s books, and what caught me completely by surprise was their interest in science, and what’s going on in the environment and it completely blew me away, of how much they are wanting to learn and how educated children are, they’re just so smart. So, these big ideas. I felt like I had the perfect background to sort of bringing them into it on a very introductory level to answer some of the beginning questions they have.”
Stahl said she moved to Knoxville after college and fell in love with the area. “I moved here after college, and I just absolutely have loved the area. I fell in love with the mountains, I fell in love with the local culture and this is just a place I wanted to be a part of,” she said.
