SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) -Officials with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said remains discovered by construction workers on Monday are believed to date back to the 1800s.

Around 6:15 p.m. on Monday, deputies were called to the 5000 block of Egypt Central Road after a body was discovered by construction workers.

An anthropologist was on the scene Tuesday and confirmed the remains were from an old 1800s burial site. Officials said parts of a coffin were found nearby.

An investigation is currently underway.
