LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WVLT) - Two Kentucky parents were arrested after a forensic nurse discovered a 9-day-old baby had at least five broken bones.

According to Louisville Metro Police, officers responded to a home after Amanda Yff, 26, and Brent Bishop, 30, reported their newborn child had fallen off a bed.

The parents reportedly told officers the baby had a broken arm. Yff made a statement to officers saying, “I can’t believe I hurt my baby this bad.”

A forensic specialist who examined the 9-day-old child determined the baby had at least five broken bones including two in the left arm, the femur bones in both legs and a broken tibia in the right leg. The baby also had a bruise on the left side of its head, according to authorities.

Yff said she and Bishop fell asleep and were unable to find the child when they woke up. According to reports, the parents eventually found the baby face down on the floor next to the bed.

A nurse who examined the newborn said it had signs of “inflicted physical abuse.” The nurse told officers the baby’s injuries “show an indifference for human life.”

The newborn’s parents were arrested and charged with abuse. The two also face drug possession charges after a search of their home led officers to discover cocaine, meth, oxycodone, marijuana and a gun.
