Vols’ Keon Johnson declares for NBA draft
According to ESPN, Johnson will forgo his NCAA eligibility and hire an agent.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Tennessee guard Keon Johnson announced his decision to enter the 2021 NBA Draft Wednesday.
“Since our season ended, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking, praying and consulting my family and coaches, and have I have decided to enter the 2021 NBA Draft,” Johnson said on Twitter.
Johnson thanked Vol Nation for continuing to show love through a “challenging season.”
“Tennessee has the most supportive fans in the country,” Johnson said. “Although my time in Knoxville was short, I loved every minute of it. Rocky Top, you’ll always be... (you know the rest!)”
The freshman also had some special words for Coach Rick Barnes and the entire UT men’s basketball coaching staff.
“Thank you for molding me into the player I am today,” Johnson said. “You’ve helped me build on the foundation built by my family and friends and all my coaches, teachers and teammates throughout my journey.”
During his time at UT, Johnson was named to the SEC’s all-freshman team. He averaged 11.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists. Johnson joins fellow guard Jaden Springer in declaring for the draft.
According to ESPN, Johnson will forgo his NCAA eligibility and hire an agent. Johnson was listed as the No. 6 prospect in the ESPN 100.
