BRICEVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Inside Briceville Elementary School students got an extra boost from an unexpected location.

There’s motivational quotes on the bathroom stalls in the girls bathroom.

“I feel like confident in myself and I don’t feel like I can’t do anything anymore,” said Savannah Bailey.

Bailey is a fourth grade student who helped add motivational quotes that say “Who runs the world? Girls.” and “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss you’ll land among the stars.”

“It does lift you up and have a better and brighter day,” said Jill Johnson.

Johnson’s been a Head Start teacher for almost a decade at Briceville. She and Savannah along with others got to work spending five hours over spring break on this project.

Johnson said, “It provides sunshine when I go in there, when I go to the bathroom.”

From inside the stalls you can’t tell, but on the outside there a variety of positive messages on every stall to lift students’ spirits.

“We can like learn how to not put ourselves down,” said Emma Lindsay, a fifth grade student.

The girls motivated their friends and one another.

Fourth grader Lavender Brannam said, “They’ve really made me feel like I is special and if I really try hard enough then I can accomplish what I want.”

The older students can help the younger ones by reading the messages to them, giving them girl power.

“I hope that when they do go in there and I hear them repeat it, I hope it does sink into their hearts and that they’ll take it to heart when they go about their day,” explained Johnson.

It’s making a difference at Briceville Elementary.

“I feel like putting those up has really changed the school,” said Bailey.

The quotes were a donation. Organizers are thinking about adding some to the boys’ bathroom as well.
