KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Knoxville Municipal Golf Course, recently voted the “favorite public golf course” by the golf readers of the Knoxville News sentinel and to say GM Justin Smedley was surprised would be an understatement, ”I’ll be completely honest, when I got the email at first I thought it was spam, the award is nice from the fact that it came from folks that visit us and come play makes it all the more special.”

The 6413 yard layout winds it’s way through and around rolling hills, running streams and is home to natural wildlife, with home being the key word says Smedley, ”It’s just a fun course to play, we want you to come out and enjoy your time, just have fun.”

Yeah, Justin says having fun is the key out there off Schaad Road at a course he says suits the beginner and an advanced golfer alike, ”We want it to be golf for all is one of our motto’s, especially last year we had a lot of first time players come out we don’t have any bunkers on the course so it’s pretty straight forward from that aspect but like I said it’s still narrow holes the more experienced player will still be challenged.”

Knox municipal or “Muni” as it’s referred to by the regulars is a true community course hosting school, church and non-profit groups like the First Tee of greater Knoxville, and this week it’s allowing patrons to get their golf fix in with The Masters taking place down in Augusta, ”The masters on a normal year, last year not being normal is is usually the kickoff for the golf season and I think that’s everywhere people see Augusta and they get antsy, they want to get out, golf is a strange thing you watch someone do it and looks so simple and then you try to do it and it’s so hard that’s kind of the lure of the game for a lot of folks.”

Knoxville Municipal has been and plans to continue being a community resource through the pandemic and beyond!
