KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - As first reported by WVLT News, Tennessee linebacker Aaron Beasley was issued an animal cruelty citation Tuesday. Beasley charged by Knoxville Police with Animal cruelty, which is a class A misdemeanor by Animal Control personnel.

In the wake of the animal abuse allegation, head coach Josh Heupel suspended the sophomore linebacker from all team activities and offered this update following practice on Thursday:

When asked after Tennessee’s first scrimmage of the spring about Beasley’s status, Heupel provided an update.

“As soon as we found out the information, it came to us; we suspended him until the process is able to unfold and facts are found out,” Heupel said. “Once we have all of that information, we will make a long-term decision there.”

Beasley was among those vying to fill the void left by Henry To’o To’o at middle linebacker for the Tennessee defense and is said to be a perfect fit for new coordinator Tim Banks defensive scheme.
