NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - A Nashville man is in custody after he allegedly attempted to kidnap his neighbor’s 9-year-old daughter.

Police said the 9-year-old and her younger brother were home alone Saturday night when the incident occurred.

Around 5:30 p.m., officers responded to a reported kidnapping at an apartment complex.

The child’s mother told police she and her husband left the children home alone while they went to the store.

While the parents were gone, 21-year-old Jacob Keener who lives in an apartment nearby, allegedly entered the victim’s home through an unlocked patio door.

Keener reportedly grabbed the 9-year-old by the hand and led her to a grassy area outside.

A witness told police they saw Keener, “place his hands on [the child’s] waist to keep her from going anywhere,” according to arrest records.

Police said the child was able to escape and run back to her apartment.

Keener was arrested and charged with attempted especially aggravated kidnapping of a child and aggravated burglary. He is being held on a $100,000 bond.
