REPORTS: Titans great Eddie George set to take over Tennessee State football
George starred as running back for the Titans for nine seasons
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Tennessee State will name four-time Pro Bowl running back Eddie George as its newest head football coach, according to reports.
George starred at running back for the Titans for nine seasons and won the 1995 Heisman Trophy after rushing for nearly 2,000 yards during his senior year at Ohio State.
The former first-team all-pro joins two-time Super Bowl champion Deion Sanders in bringing more national attention to the HBCU ranks. Sanders took over Jackson State’s program this season and is largely credited with more television exposure for FCS teams playing spring seasons.
George replaces Ron Reed, who has coached the Tigers since 2010. Stadium first reported the news. ESPN later confirmed the report.
