KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Emerald Youth in Knoxville helps teens by providing a safe space for them after-school.

One of its programs is for high schoolers. The Calling & Career Ministry helps with homework, tutoring, and preparing students for college.

There’s four locations across Knoxville that give hundreds of young adults a place to go and grow.

Staff get to know these students and care for them and their families.

Even with the pandemic, leaders look to get more young people involved in the programs.

”I believe these programs are working and you’re going to continue to see us in the community,” explained Kaylin Chesney, Director of East/South area ministries for Emerald Youth. “It’s been, you know, tragic situations happen, but all of our programs, we’re still here. Even COVID we never closed our doors it just changed the way we do things.”

Emerald Youth’s high school program is free.
