Former Austin-East student says KPD officer is bright spot in the school
A former Austin-East student says Officer Willson is a bright spot in the school.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -According to KPD, Officer Adam Willson is a 20-year veteran of the police department. Willson was currently serving as the School Resource Officer at Austin-East when an armed student fired shots during a shooting at Austin-East High School Monday
Officer Willson is recovering following surgery.
One former Austin-East student says the officer is a bright spot in the school. Cheyenne Workman is a 2018 Austin-East graduate and says “everybody likes” Officer Willson.
Workman says on days where her volleyball team played, he would pull her aside and offer words of encouragement saying, “you know what Cheyenne you got this!! Bring it! Bring it home for AE!”
According to actor Stephen Green, Willson made an appearance on the television shows, “Homicide Hunter,” and “Fatal Attraction.” Green says Willson would always go above and beyond to help someone better understand their role.
Knoxville Mayor Indya Kincannon said Willson is in “good spirits” and said he’d “rather this happen to him than someone else.”
Willson was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center with a leg injury. According to Officer Willson’s son, a bullet was just inches away from causing a much more serious injury.
The son tells WVLT his dad was hit in the upper leg and underwent surgery to repair his femur and that injury could have been a lot worse. Officials said Willson underwent surgery and is now recovering.
“We are grateful for the well wishes,” KPD said in a statement.
