East Tenn. couple arrested after alleged abuse of 2-month-old

KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WVLT) - Officials with the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office said a couple is behind bars after allegedly abusing their 2-month-old child.

According to SCSO, Cory Gibson, 32, and Lorissa Gibson, 30, were arrested Thursday, April 15.

Officials said an investigation into the couple began after the sheriff’s office, “received a child abuse referral from the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services regarding suspected child abuse of a two-month-old child.”

Cory Gibson told investigators how he “handled the child with such force that it caused bruising about the head during one incident and, in another incident, handling the child by the neck.”

Lorissa Gibson was reportedly present during the abuse and “took no action” in terms of reporting.

The couple was charged with two counts of aggravated child abuse, according to officials. Cory Gibson is being held on a $50,000 bond and Larissa Gibson is being held on a $3,000 bond.
