COSBY, Tenn. (WVLT) - An anonymous East Tennessee woman has made a difference for the Cosby Volunteer Fire Department by donating a $1,000 check to help pay for the station’s new fire truck.
The woman said she was first influenced by the Cosby Volunteer Fire Department getting its first new fire truck in 35 years. After finding out about the department receiving its first new truck she said she decided to write a check to help pay for some of the leftover expenses.
The new fire truck replaced an old school bus transformed into a fire truck from decades ago.
The truck was paid for thanks to a $300,000 FEMA grant, but there was still about $13,000 the station needed to pay off.
A Cosby Fire Department board member said the station relied on donations and its memberships for a little more than half of its annual budget.
The engine in the truck is now safer, more reliable and more efficient for the firefighters.
