SHELBY, N.C. (WVLT) - An 8-month-old girl was hospitalized Tuesday when she was struck by a stray bullet, according to officials with the Shelby Police Department.

Police said an altercation happened outside a home around 10:20 p.m. Tuesday. During the altercation, shots were fired and a bullet traveled through an outside wall into the home striking the baby.

The child was rushed to a local hospital for treatment. Officials said she was then flown to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte where she remains for treatment. The child’s condition has not been released.

No arrests have been made and police said they are “actively investigating” the incident.
