KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Renew Clinic, located off Western Avenue, was birthed out of the Knox County Church Network.

“It’s a group of pastors that have crossed denominational lines to come together to fight addiction in our community,” said Executive Director Sarah Keel.

The organization is an intensive outpatient treatment center. Patients meet three days per week for three hours and it includes individual therapy and case management.

“All substances, alcohol, opioids, all drugs,” she added. “We don’t have any one specific drug that we focus on.”

Keel is in recovery herself. She uses her love for the Lord to help their patients in recovery and use the bible as their foundation.

“I had a radical encounter with the Lord when I was 18, 19 years old and he’s just brought me to this place,” she said. “Clinically informed so we don’t abandon the reality that addiction can be a lot of biological components, addiction science we’re informed by those things.”

Some people may relapse during their recovery journey. Keel said the pandemic may not have helped.

“I know that’s there going to be many people walking through our doors that may have started their recovery journey and may have back slidden,” she added. “All the uncertainty of 2020, so we expect to see those people come through our doors.”
