KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -An Anderson County Sheriff’s Office deputy was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle Saturday.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Deputy Stephen Carroll was directing traffic Saturday night on Tri-County Boulevard when a vehicle struck him in the left lane while he was in pursuit of a wanted fugitive.

The fugitive is wanted as a result of leaving a federal halfway house, according to ACSO officials. As of Monday afternoon, the suspect has not been caught yet.

THP officials said Deputy Carroll was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center where he had surgery for a broken leg.

“He is alert and doing well and looking forward to getting back. Continue to pray for his speedy recovery,” the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured, but the passenger of the vehicle was injured and transported for medical care.

Officials say no charges are pending towards the driver.
