25-year-old man killed in crash on the Spur

Investigators said speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash.

GATLINBURG, Tenn. (WVLT) - Great Smoky Mountain National Park officials said a 25-year-old man was killed Saturday in a crash on the Spur.

Park rangers responded to reports of a crash on the Spur around 3 p.m.

Officials said 25-year-old Gian M. Spagnolo of Venezuela, was driving south on the Spur when he lost control near Caney Creek Road. Spagnolo reportedly veered off the road and crashed into multiple trees.

Spagnolo was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only occupant in the vehicle, according to authorities.

Investigators said speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash.

Pigeon Forge Fire Department, Pigeon Forge Police Department, Sevier County Ambulance and the Sevier County Medical Examiner’s Office responded and assisted on the scene.

Officials said Spagnolo was currently living and working in Sevier County.
