KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -The Knox County Education Coalition has called on the Board of Education to regain control of police in Knox County Schools following the fatal Austin-East officer-involved shooting.

According to a release, the coalition said officers should be removed from KCS until the system adopts policies and procedures that put the welfare of every child ahead of any other priority.

The coalition said a current Memorandum of Agreement is in place with KCS that allows officers and sheriff’s deputies license to enter KCS campuses and operate without constraint.

“The demonstrated pattern of SROs mistakes that have harmed KCS students shows the necessity for KCS to reassert control of its campuses,” said coalition member, Lance McCold.
