Lightning strike causes fire at Pigeon Forge Kroger

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Pigeon Forge Fire Department responded to multiple emergency calls Tuesday morning as severe weather impacts the region.

Fire crews responded to a confirmed fire at the Kroger located at 220 Wears Valley Road around 7:04 a.m.

Officials determined a lightning strike was the cause of the fire.

The Gatlinburg Fire Department and Sevierville Fire Department, the Sevier County Ambulance Service and Pigeon Forge Police Department responded to assist with the incident.

The fire was successfully extinguished. Officials said no injuries were reported.

Crews were then dispatched to another confirmed fire nearly eight minutes later.

The fire was reported at a satellite dish on the 1500 block of Boo Boos Way. Officials said the fire was caused by a lightning strike.

Pigeon Forge Firefighters successfully extinguished that fire with the assistance of the Gatlinburg Fire Department.

Shortly after 8 a.m., crews were called to water rescues on Ridge Road and Valley Mountain Way in Sevierville. Firefighters pulled drivers from each of the flooded vehicles. No injuries were reported, according to Pigeon Forge Police.

Police warned that multiple roads in the area are flooded and impassible.
