KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - 28-year-old Hannah Bacon is spreading a message of change with each step she takes

The environmental activist is traveling from California to Virginia Beach.

Bacon said she started her journey in November and walked through Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years’ and even her birthday.

Bacon said her feet and shoulders are in pain, but it’s for a good cause.

“This is an effort to reduce my own carbon footprint, but also to inspire other people to realize they can be doing more whether it’s walking more to work or school or recycling or composting. There are little things that we all can be doing to put or climate first,” said Bacon.

Bacon is also raising money for an organization called The Sunrise Movement, an organization working to create renewable energy and green jobs. So far she has raised over $18,000 out of her $20,000 goal.

Bacon spent the night in Roane County on Tuesday and will resume her journey Wednesday morning.

She has nearly 600 miles before making it to Virginia Beach.
