Touch screen inventor expanding in Knoxville
The new center will intially create around 80 jobs
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - If you’ve used a touch screen at home, a store, or a restaurant, chances are it was made by a company right here in Knoxville.
Elo Touch Solutions invented the original touch screen 50 years ago.
“Not everybody realizes Knoxville is the birthplace of the touch screen we all know and love today,” said CEO Craig Witsoe.
Now, the company is expanding in East Tennessee and moving a massive part of its operations to Hardin Valley.
“In the late 90s a lot of Elo moved out of Knoxville and into Silicon Valley and over the last 5 years we’ve been moving a ton of things back into Knoxville. While we still have a really important tech center in California and in Dallas- Knoxville is going to give us the scale to keep growing throughout the world,” said Witsoe.
The center is expected to be completed by late Summer of 2021 and initially add about 80 jobs to the area.
“When you’re here it builds that supply for other business,” said Witsoe. He said jobs will be posted on their website soon.
Elo’s East Tennessee expansion will consolidate warehouse, repair, and product customization functions currently located in California and New York along with its existing supply chain, tech support, and sales functions already in Knoxville.
