Anonymous tip to East Tenn. Valley Crime Stoppers leads to theft arrest

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Knoxville Police said an anonymous tip made to the East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers led to an arrest in a theft case.

On April 23, a woman shopping at the Walmart on Kinzel Way said her phone was stolen while she was checking out.

Police posted information of the theft along with pictures of the suspect on the KPD Facebook page along with information on how to submit a tip to crime stoppers.

According to KPD, in just a few days, an anonymous tip came in identifying the suspect. Officials said the tip was sent to the case investigator who was able to positively identify the suspect, complete the investigation and make an arrest.

“East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers encourages all our citizens to help in the fight against crime,” officials said in a statement. “Anyone with information about criminal activity, wanted fugitives or any crime can submit a tip, anonymously, without fear of retaliation, to East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers and we will forward your tip to the proper authorities to investigate without revealing your identity.”

Callers can remain anonymous and are eligible to receive a cash reward if the information given leads to an arrest, the recovery of weapons, narcotics, stolen property or the capture of a wanted fugitive, you could be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
