Visit Knoxville Open week swings on
VFL Josh Dobbs among those playing in Tuesday Pro-Am
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - It is Tournament week in Knoxville but not quite tournament time. The Korn Ferry Tour Pro’s will tee off for real bright and early Thursday morning.
A little less stress at the course on Tuesday with Pro-Am action taking place and among the amateurs giving it their best shot, VFL and Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Josh Dobbs, who’s been a quick study after taking up the sport recently, ”It’s very humbling but a lot of fun I think I’ve been playing for about three months now so a fresh new set of clubs , they’re doing well, they’re all working today so I can’t complain, but it’s a joy to be playing out here . It’s a chance to meet some of the professionals on tour as well as some of the locals from Knoxville so I thank Visit Knoxville Open for having me and I’m enjoying my round today.”
While Josh and the other amateurs were having a good time Tuesday, the Pro’s were taking it a bit more serious trying to learn the lay of the land, if you will, on this new Korn Ferry Tour venue, “This is my first time playing it and , it’s obviously a Donald Ross course and being from North Carolina and I’ve played a lot of those in my life. The greens are very undulating, they’ve got a lot of slope so you really need to put your ball in the right spots, keep them below the hole give yourself a good look for birdie. The scores should be pretty low this week,” says Tour Pro Ben Kohles.
After missing out last year due to the pandemic, everyone is happy to be back out on the links and that includes Visit Knoxville’s Chad Culver, ”I think it’s a chance to see some of the best golfer’s in the world in our own backyard anytime we can do that and have professional athletes in town showcasing our city and showcasing our golf course it’s fun. These guys play a different game than we play so it’s exciting to watch.”
Tournament week activities continue Wednesday with a practice round for the pro’s and don’t forget our WVLT Visit Knoxville Open Preview special Wednesday at 4pm.
The tournament starts on Thursday, parking is $5 at Chilhowee Park, where an air conditioned bus will shuttle you to and from the course.
