Nearly 50 rabbits rescued from Illinois hotel room
The rabbits remained undiscovered for more than a year.
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (WVLT) - Nearly 50 rabbits were rescued from a Chicago hotel over the weekend.
According to DuPage County Animal Services, a woman was living in the extended-stay hotel with her pets.
Due to COVID-19, the hotel had stopped providing room cleaning services in March 2020. The rabbits remained undiscovered for more than a year.
The woman told officials she started with three rabbits. In 15 months the rabbits multiplied to 47. The rabbits ranged in ages from one week to two years old.
“When I started a dog rescue in 2008, I don’t think “hey, there are 40+ rabbits in a hotel room, can you help?” was ever a question I was going to be ready for,” Chicago animal rescue One Tail at a Time posted on Facebook.
One Tail advised pet owners to spay and neuter their animals, stating they, “can’t stress it enough.”
The animal center is currently looking for foster homes for the rabbits.
