Sunshine helps us recover from a colder morning
Chief Meteorologist Heather Haley says rain chances are spotty and temperature are warming.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Colder air has been dropping South on repeat lately, so it’s nice to say that we are warming back up! Today’s sunshine is the first step.
WHAT TO EXPECT
It was a beautiful start to the day, but a very cold one. We started the day 15 degrees below average! Knoxville dropped to 41, Crossville 40, Middlesboro 36, and Sevierville 37 degrees. (That’s also just a few degrees above the record low of 38 for Knoxville.)
Today’s sunshine helps us out quite a bit, with a high temperature that’s closer to 10 degrees below average. We’re topping out around 69 degrees in Knoxville. In our area, temperatures are closer to 70s south and low 60s North. There’s a light, cool breeze, and a stray pop-up is possible today. I’m mainly seeing conditions right for a shower to develop in the mountains and far northeast Tennessee today.
Tonight is partly cloudy, with a light breeze, and still chilly. We’re looking to cool to around 43 degrees by Friday morning.
Friday is mostly clear to partly cloudy, but with some extra clouds in the afternoon to evening, an isolated shower or storm could develop. The best chance for a pop-up afternoon shower is in the mountains. We’ll top out around 71 degrees, as highs continue to increase.
This weekend is still on track to warm to the 70s! Saturday looks better, with a mostly sunny view and a high around 74 degrees. Spotty pop-ups are possible Sunday, with more clouds moving through, so we’re looking at a high in the low 70s.
Early next week cranks up to 80 on Monday, and then scattered storms move in Monday night to Tuesday. We’re monitoring how many showers will be leftover for next Wednesday. The chance for rain is trying to toggle up and down, so we’ll keep you updated!
