KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - A Knox County church plans to use at least 200 gas gift cards on Saturday morning for anyone in need.

Dante Church of God Senior Pastor David Snyder said the church members got the idea to give away free gas before the pandemic last year, but COVID-19 delayed them being able to do it.

“We just want to bless our community during this time, during this post-COVID,” said Snyder.

The event was already planned for this weekend before the gas shortage began.

The goal is for members of the church to swipe a $15.00 gas gift card for the Murphy USA gas station on 6783 Clinton Highway in front of the Walmart, pump gas and pray with the people who attend.

“We feel like we’re fulfilling the purpose of Christ that we’re to reach out to all people and minister to all people,” said Snyder.

As of Friday afternoon the gas station had gas.

The event will go from 9:30 to 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 15.
