TBI launches investigation into alleged beating of inmate at Monroe Co. Jail

MONROE COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has launched an investigation into the suspected beating of an inmate at the Monroe County Jail.

TBI officials said they were requested on Thursday, May 14 to investigate a use of force complaint by the 10th District Attorney General Steve Crump.

A video provided to WVLT shows what appears to be a jail employee allegedly assaulting the inmate while other employees stand and watch. The cameras in the room where the alleged assault took place were quickly covered by one of the suspected employees.

Monroe County Assistant District Attorney Shelley Taylor told WVLT she could not comment on the video or incident because it is an open investigation.
