KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Officials with the Knoxville Police Department announced multiple people were arrested and numerous firearms were discovered during patrol efforts in the Cumberland Avenue area over the weekend.

Knoxville Police initiated a traffic stop on a green Honda sedan on the 1900 block of Cumberland Avenue around 11:15 p.m. Friday.

Police said during the traffic stop, officers detected the smell of marijuana. A search of the vehicle revealed a bag containing various narcotics, marijuana and drug paraphernalia, according to reports. Police said they also located two handguns in the vehicle.

Dustin Dodgen, 26, admitted to possession of the firearms, narcotics and drug paraphernalia, and was taken into custody. He was charged with multiple counts of simple possession and unlawful possession of a weapon, KPD reported.

On Saturday, May 15, around 12:30 a.m. patrol officers located a wanted suspect on the 1900 block of Cumberland Avenue. Police said Joshua Welcome, 24, was wanted on multiple outstanding warrants, including two counts of domestic assault and one count of felony evading.

Welcome was taken into custody. During his arrest, police discovered narcotics believed to be marijuana and heroin.

At 1 a.m. officers noticed an unoccupied Dodge Charger sitting at a gas pump at the Shell gas station located at 2001 Cumberland Avenue. Police said a K-9 officer alerted positive on the vehicle and a search of the vehicle was conducted. That search revealed a loaded handgun as well as an Oxycodone tablet, according to KPD.

Knoxville Police reported at 12:15 a.m. Sunday, officers saw a man sitting in the passenger’s seat of a gold Nissan Maxima at 2021 Cumberland Avenue, which was closed at the time. Police said the man identified as J’Marea Pirtle, 21, was found in possession of a semi-automatic handgun and an AR-15 pistol.

Pirtle was taken into custody and charged with possessing a firearm with intent to go armed and schedule I drug violations.

At the same time, police said observed a man in the driver’s seat of a white Ford Expedition in the parking lot of 2021 Cumberland Avenue. When police approached the man, he reportedly fled on foot westbound on Cumberland Avenue. Officers were able to catch the suspect, identified as Jahvionte Bray, 18, after a short foot pursuit in the area of 1901 Lake Avenue.

Bray had an outstanding warrant for aggravated assault, was found in possession of three key fobs to different vehicles, including the white Ford Expedition, which was reported as stolen, according to Knoxville Police. Inside the vehicle, officers said they located a loaded AR-15 and suspected marijuana. Bray was taken into custody for the outstanding warrant, theft of property and additional charges.
